A holiday to Turkey is a holiday to a land of sparkling seas, secluded coves, mouth-watering food and a very warm welcome - both from the people and the climate; hot, sunny days are a given from May to October.

A proper melting pot of civilisations, most of Turkey is in Asia, but its north-west corner is in Europe, and this mix is what makes Turkey so special. Expect bustling bazaars in romantic old quarters next to pristine white beaches, ancient harbours, luscious forests and lively nightlife. Turkey has it all.

The Mediterranean coast is where most of the holiday action happens, and you'll find accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes, from all-inclusive resorts and sumptuous spa hotels to self-catered villas and apartments with pools.

Bodrum is best known for its nightlife. Along with neighbouring Mamaris, its never-ending list of bars and clubs to enjoy is legendary. But there is more to Bodrum than partying, and the peninsula makes the most of its subtropical Aegean coastline with beaches galore on its peninsula.

Head east and the next holiday hotspot is the Dalaman region on what's known as the Turquoise Coast. One quick glance at the pictures and it's clear to see why - the beaches are just that touch more vivid and the sea just that touch more sparkly than elsewhere. More laidback than Bodrum but with plenty to do, it has everything from water parks and adrenalin activities to pampering spas and cultural landmarks.

Further east along the Turquoise Coast is Antalya - both the city and the region. In the former you'll find grand palm tree-lined boulevards and a charming old town, in the latter are some of Turkey's most family-friendly beaches and all-inclusive resorts.
